Shark StainStriker Review: Is It Worth It for Busy Moms?
If you have kids, pets, or just real-life messes happening daily, a good portable carpet cleaner isn’t a luxury, it’s a lifesaver. I recently bought the Shark StainStriker Portable Carpet, Upholstery and Area Rug Cleaner. I wanted to share my thoughts for you to consider if you’re in the market for one.

What Is the Shark StainStriker?
The Shark StainStriker is a compact, portable carpet and upholstery cleaner designed to tackle:
- Food spills
- Pet accidents
- Mystery stains
- Odors trapped in fabrics
It also comes with a dual-activated cleaning solution with each sitting in its own tank before mixing inside the machine for extra stain-fighting power. This is something you will have to replace once you finish it. The refills can be found here.
What I Loved about the Machine
1. It Removes Set-In Stains
My kitchen chairs are a cream color, and the family has left food stains on them throughout the year. The machine was able to remove almost all of the stains.
Yes, I did see a few that were faded but not completely gone, but there was a drastic difference. Also, the general color of the cream became more vibrant which let me know that they were dirtier than I thought.

2. Compact + Easy to Store
My house was built in the 1960s, so I don’t have a ton of storage. I make the best decisions with the space I have, and this is one of them. A full size carpet cleaner would take up too much room. The StainStriker is a great alternative.
The hose wraps around the base, and the cord has a special spot as well.
All in all, it’s lightweight and easy to grab when something spills or the dog gets sick.
3. Perfect for Upholstery
This machine is built for small stains. I found It worked especially well on:
- Dining chairs
- Carpet spot cleaning- it’s the best spot cleaner for carpets that I’ve used.
- Couches and seats
- Car seats
This makes it perfect if you have kids, pets, or social events.
4. It has Great Attachments
The integrated crevice tool that can get to the tightest and tiniest of spots, and the 3.5” stain eliminator does most of the work. But, if you get the bundle that I did, you will also receive a larger 7” stain eliminator and the pet mess extractor. It covers all bases!

What I Didn’t Like
1. Small Water Tank
Because it’s portable, you’ll need to refill it for bigger jobs. Not a dealbreaker, but something to keep in mind. For example, when cleaning my upholstered dining chairs, I could finish about three chairs before needing to empty the dirty water and replenish the clean tank.
While I had to refill it, the smaller tank is exactly what keeps the machine so lightweight and easy to carry upstairs!
2. Not for Whole-Room Cleaning
This is more of a spot cleaner, not a replacement for a full carpet shampooer. But, if you go into this purchase understanding that, you’re not going to be disappointed.

Should You Buy the Shark StainStriker?
I’d first like to say that I’m not disappointed with this little machine. I think that it’s perfect for people who:
- Have kids (spills are constant)
- Have pets (accidents happen)
- Want something quick and easy for everyday messes
- Don’t want to haul out a full-size machine

Tips for Using
- Protect Your Floors: The spray pattern is wide, so lay down a towel first.
- Dwell Time is Key: Spray the stain and let it sit for 2-3 minutes before scrubbing.
- Immediate Maintenance: Rinse the tanks and the tool head immediately after use to prevent odors.
Is It Worth It?
If you’re looking for a convenient, effective spot cleaner, it’s absolutely worth it.
Not to sound like a broken record, but it’s not meant to replace a full carpet cleaner. It is meant to help you keep your house looking great even if you have kids and pets.

Final Verdict
The Shark StainStriker hits that sweet spot of:

- Practical and small
And honestly, anything that makes cleanup faster is a win.
