How to Find What to Get Dad for Father’s Day
This post is all about what to get Dad for Father’s Day.

My husband and son on our trip to D.C.
Father’s Day is a time to celebrate the first hero in your life—or at least the guy who always had the best (or worst) jokes. The problem is, it can be hard figuring out what to get the guy who gets everything for himself! When I was younger, I would ask my dad what he wanted for Father’s Day, and his response was always “Peace and Quiet” (insert eye roll here). One year, I built him a cardboard box man cave (well before they were a thing) and wrote “Peace and Quiet” on the outside. He couldn’t fit in it, but I finally gave him what he wanted. But the question remains, how do you get the perfect gift for your dad?
This post will provide ideas based on five different types of dads that are out there making dad jokes every day, so you won’t have to wonder about what to get Dad on Father’s Day.
For the Tech-Savvy Dad
If your special guy is a big fan of technology, you don’t have to spend much money getting him something big.
Get creative and tech up his favorite hobbies. What are the things that he loves to do? There is absolutely a gadget for it. All you need to do is a quick Google or Amazon search of “hobby gadgets” and you’ll find something that is sure to make Dad happy. For example, if Dad loves golf, search “golf gadgets”, and you’ll be shocked at what comes up.
Before purchasing, read the reviews to make sure it’s a hit with other buyers. There can be real winners, but there can also be duds. Take the time to investigate.

So many results for the simple term "golf gadgets".
For the Foodie Dad
Let’s try to hit the different ways to celebrate the man who loves food almost as much as he loves his kids.
Kitchen tools: get him a new kitchen tool that can help Dad channel his inner Bobby Flay. Does he like refined cooking and need a unique tool? Maybe he needs a replacement for a tool that’s looking like it’s on its way out. Adding to his collection will be appreciated by the master of the kitchen.
Find a recipe he’s never made but will love: What if he has all the tools? Find the perfect “Oh my goodness, Dad would love this recipe” and print it out for him. Add it to a basket with any of the ingredients he would need to take it off the page and into the kitchen. You’ll reap the benefits of this as much as he will.
Find local (or online) classes: Do a search to see if there are any local classes that you can sign Dad up for. This can give him the perfect chance to learn from a pro and improve his skills!
Restaurant Experience: Every few months, a nearby winery partners with a local restaurant and creates a tasting experience. Search locally to find something similar! Dad would love to take this opportunity to appreciate fine dining and a food experience. If you’re lucky, maybe you can be his plus one!

Inspire his culinary desires.
For the Homebody Dad
There are dads out there who love the comfort of home almost as much as I do. Let Dad embrace this by adding to the comfort he feels when he’s at home.
Cozy is king to these dads, so why not try to elevate the comfort with new slippers and a wearable blanket like the one here?
Not into clothes? Get him a blanket to call his very own. There are blankets for every occasion. Dad a huge Cowboys fan? There’s a blanket for that. Loves fishing? There’s a blanket with a huge fish on it somewhere.
Or maybe Dad simply loves comfort—get him a beautiful blanket that blends into the home decor but only he can wrap himself up in it.
Embrace Dad’s ways and join him for a movie night. Package up a movie night container filled with snacks and beverages, and create “Now Playing” movie options for him to choose from. You can use websites like Canva to design it. Add the title, a description, and maybe some reviews, and let him select the movie he wants to watch with you.

Easily made on Canva to make the night special.
For the Sentimental Dad
If your dad is all heart, tug at those strings with some of these ideas.
It’s time to go down memory lane and create a photo book that is sure to fill his heart! Try one of these two options:
- Create an album of highlights throughout the years, and add captions that’ll make him laugh and cry. I’ve done this for my dad, and it was a hit. He even calls me every so often to share that he was looking at it.
- Make it an annual roundup. Do one for the year, and keep it going for years to come. The whole family will love the flip through the pages of each year and remember the fun times you had together.
Photobook services like Shutterfly, Chatbooks, or Mixbook all provide programs that make this task a breeze!
Don’t want to create a book? Use websites like Canva or CapCut to create a video that Dad will love! Gather old videos and pictures and put them to music. Download it, and create a video that he will want to watch again and again.
For the Sporty Dad
My husband fits this mold to a T. He loves it all. If your dad is like this, too, you have plenty of ways to give him the perfect gift.
Clothes – you can refresh his wardrobe with clothes specific to playing the sport or activity he loves. It’s not the most unique of gifts, but it’s sure appreciated.
Equipment- Add to his collection by getting him the latest in whatever sport he loves. If he has the equipment, I’m sure there’s a gadget you can get that he would never think of on his own.
At home- Find at home versions of what he likes to do, so he can transport himself into a smaller version of whatever it is he loves to play. My husband loves golf, so one year, I got him Chippo, an at home game that has golf vibes. It doesn’t even have to be that big. My son got this golf mug because he knows that Daddy loves golf!

My son celebrated his Dad's passion with this cute mug (the club is a pen)!
Experience the sport: Get him tickets to watch his favorite team, or schedule a time for him to get on the field and play. In years past, I’ve coordinated with other wives and we scheduled a tee time for the guys to go and play. It’s a fantastic gift!
Wrap It Up with Heart
No matter what you choose, remember that the most important thing is to put thought and effort into your gift. A heartfelt video or a homemade gift can be as meaningful as an expensive one.
Consider your dad's unique personality, interests, and hobbies when deciding how to celebrate one of the most important men in your life. And most importantly, don't forget to spend quality time with him on Father's Day and let him know how much you appreciate him.
