7 Inexpensive At Home Date Night Activities You’ll Love
This post is all about at home date night activities you can do this weekend.
If you’re a homebody like me or you just don’t want to go out on a chilly night, here are some great ideas for still getting in time with your man but never leaving the house. Heck, sometimes it’s just boring to go to the same places over and over again. Or, your funds are simply too low, and you need to get creative and date your man from the comfort of your own home.
This post will share different at home date night activities for you to try on a budget
Date Night Ideas at Home
Whether you’re staying home because you want to be cozy and don’t want to leave your house or you’re just broke, all of these ideas are affordable and fun. There is no need to just sit around staring at the tv. Make an effort to connect.
If you do one of these each weekend, you almost have two months of time organized for you and your man.
Date Night Dinner Ideas
Order a Meal Prep and cook together.
With all of the meal prep options out there, you can find a company you like and be intentional in your ordering so that you can create a fantastic meal together. Simply pop open a bottle of wine, get the music going, and start chopping.
This allows you two to work together for a common goal and have a shared experience that will be filled with laughter and connection.
If you don’t want to order from a meal prep company, you can find a recipe that’s unusual for you and your man, get the ingredients, and work together to create a candlelight dinner.
A third option is ordering in from somewhere you’ve never eaten and splitting your meals.
The overall goal should be sharing a different experience from what you normally do. This will help form those warm, fuzzy feelings that a good date night ends with.
At Home Date Night Games
Game nights are a fantastic way to get conversation going. Plan on keeping the television off so that you don’t get distracted. Listen to music while you play and be comfortable. That way you’ll want to keep going after your first game.
Board games are fun! If you have short attention spans (like I do), brainstorm a handful of shorter games so you can keep up the novelty. These games should be perfect for two!
Don’t forget about the classics. My husband schools me every time we play Boggle, but games like checkers, Shut the Box, Mancala, and card games can bring tons of wholesome fun.
Play Virtual Games
If you want to get moving, competing against each other with a virtual reality headset is a pretty fun way to go about it. Spending the night trying to see who can destroy the other in Beat Saber can be fun. Maybe play a round of virtual bowling?
Not ready to invest in a virtual reality headset? The local library had a library of things for the community to rent that offered renting the Oculus for a week. See if your local library has something similar.
Ideas for at Home Dates That Are Relaxing
Do a Spa Night
If it has been a stressful week, why not plan a night to unwind together?
If your man is up for it, you can start by throwing yoga on YouTube that sets the tone for the night.
But you don’t have to stop there. The possibilities are endless. For example, you can journal off of a writing prompt like, what you’re grateful for in the other person. Then, share what you wrote to bring yourselves closer.
Another idea is to get out some face masks and apply them while listening to relaxing sounds.
You can also set a timer and give each other massages to calm the body.
Then, finish the night with a meditation while laying next to each other.
It may sound corny, but in today’s fast paced world, it may be just what you need.
Don’t forget to add essential oils to add to the ambiance.

Turn to the Classics
Movie Night
Before the movie starts, run to your local Target or Dollar Store and grab snacks that you and your guy will want to enjoy while watching a movie. You can’t forget about popcorn!
Grab blankets and pillows and set up a space where you can just chill together.
Types of movies:
Think about changing up the movies. Maybe you want to watch a classic rom-com or you can try to hit a genre you guys have never watched.
Another idea is to get creative like choosing the Best Picture of the Year for the year you guys met or got married.
Get Creative
Paint and Sip
This is more doable than you think!
First, before the date night, search YouTube for easy painting to create. Search things like “Sip and Paint at Home”, and you will find tons of options!
Then go to your local crafts store, Five Below, or Dollar Tree and grab your canvases, paints, and brushes.
The day of, all you have to do is prep the area, put on some music and make some snacks. This is such a great way to stay in and enjoy each other’s company.
Keep in mind that you’re not painting the next Monet. You’re simply creating a memory.
Travel the World
Virtual Travel Night
Still got that virtual headset? Why not get a little creative and set a destination!
If you don’t have a virtual headset, you can still journey through a different land with videos on, you guessed it, YouTube.
For the night, you can select your destination ahead of time. There are tons of resources on the web, like this website, that shares suggestions of where you can go. They also include playlists of music that you can listen to on your journey! https://www.globalgameplan.com/virtual-travel
To add to the night, plan on eating the food of wherever you’re traveling to. Are you going to Paris, France? Then order in some French food and open a bottle of French wine.
Heck, you can even decorate your room with silly cardboard decorations to add to the night!
Or, Stay in Your Own Backyard
Picnics or Nighttime “camping”
If the weather is good, you can spend the night outside “camping” in your own backyard. Whether you stay until morning or not is up to you, but the night can be built out to include a fire, smores, music on a little radio.
Spend that time talking about the craziest dates you both went on with each other.
Include searching the yard for long tree branches that you can use to roast your marshmallows while making new memories.
If the weather isn’t great, try a picnic indoors.
Lay a blanket on the floor and set up a basket that includes only foods that would be brought on a picnic.
Plus, a bonus if you add some photo albums (yeah, I’m that old) of pictures of when you two were younger. Go through them and talk about what you remember.
Just remember, you have options:
- 1Order a meal prep and cook together
- 2Play games
- 3Do a spa night
- 4Movie night
- 5Paint and sip
- 6Virtual travel
- 7Set up a picnic
No matter what activity you choose, the most important thing is to spend quality time together and have fun. Put away your phones, turn off the TV, and focus on each other.
